“How So Today?” (Angie, Photo series)

So live this day as “All there is” –
“I’ve got today, to do my biz”,
Is how my neighbor fought his fight –
Did life each day, and did it right.

He had MS, athletic form
Collapsed on him amidst that storm;
But when some swingy day rolled ’round,
He stayed in bed – best way, he found.

These chronic (lifestyle) illnesses
Which sweep our land with challenges
In many forms for senior folk,
Are Boomer-fare – time we awoke.

So, Holy Spirit, now I wake
And shift with You from road I hate
Into God’s “Promised Land” for me,
Fresh challenges – each day I see.

I think of Luther and his quip
When asked response (he did insist),
“If I knew fully life would end
For all tomorrow, I would send –

“For seedling apple tree to plant –
Seven years it takes to grow – my rant
Is live today – you cannot see
Tomorrow – go out, plant some seeds.

So Holy Spirit, “Here we are”
As father stated, seemed to jar
The mourners for his young-mom girl –
Indeed, we are amidst the swirl.

For that young mom heard of the pin
That day I spoke of pinwheel’s spin,
And thanked me when her young son died –
Alas, her cancer raged inside.

The end was swift – but legacy
Is more like Luther’s apple tree,
Or seeds of life, and hope, and faith,
She’d plant each day – “No need to wait”.

I’ve learned so much from faith she lived –
Ex-pats from church where I’d been shived;
A bit like ex-pats from Boldt’s church –
Spread life and love, matured there first.

Old Herod and his Pilate friend
Killed Jesus, to the four winds sent
Apostles spreading Jewish bliss
To other nations – Heaven’s kiss.

In that I’m hearing, for today,
Your guiding Spirit, with a way
To live my life – plant apple tree
Of living hope – some simple seed.

So keep me in Your way today;
Show me the things to do and say
Through photographs you’d have me make
Then plant, like seeds, for Goodness’ sake.

Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
