“What Sort Of World?” [Die broke series, #1] (Luke 1:2-4)

“What sort of world is this?” they ask,
Two thousand years or so have passed;
Between them lies great sweeps of time,
In Western world that’s part of mine.

Not all – just part – like sandwiched meat;
Two thousand more in Text we meet –
That’s bottom layer – boiled down for all –
“Best practice since old Adam’s fall”.

On other side, First Nations here,
Have their approach to resource clear –
“You guys are nuts, ‘might’ is not ‘right’;
You take the planet out of sight”.

“What we all want? It’s freedom now”
To do the things which cash allows;
CREAM’s world indeed – idealist
Is ‘high’, ‘naïve’ (not likely fixed).

“I see things right – some bloke out there
Comes up with cash, mundane or flair,
It matters not, it’s base to all –
Freedom’s the best thing since the fall.”

I note in Luke (one: two to four)
His world’s historic – “Checked some more”;
Book’s his report – Theophilus
Now story knows – then passed to us.

Luke checked eyewitnesses as well,
Not just the folks who stories tell;
That’s an intriguing aspect for
It’s like “Die-Broke” with something more –

Christ went for broke as well, but said,
“Dying’s now done – I’m Spirit-led;
I do the things I see God do;
Lifestyle I prototype for you”.

Both authors claim perspective’s theirs –
One from a life of client’s cares;
One from eternal point of view
(Through poet’s pen, First Nations too).

I sense the giver-finance clash
With each compassion-person’s task
Of “Being”, “One”, “In world with care”;
Allergic clash? “Both ways are there.

Both challenge “certainty of world”;
There’s overlap – both view the swirl
Of molinillo’s whirling spin –
One speaks from layer above, one in.

Both have a “freedom” seen as good –
Die-broke has cash – does as he would;
Christ has a center point above –
Frees Him to live His life of love.

Boldt’s “five balloons” click in here too –
“Money” and “power” I seize from you;
They are “religion” – “media”
Makes “culture” yield to me – oh yes!

Christ is reverse of flow that’s seen
In modern man, for “God” has been
Source of all “power” and world’s “resource” –
Pours into “culture” – thanks pour forth –

That’s what we do – give thanks always,
In words direct of speech and praise;
Through “media” we pour back thanks –
Cash is just tool for use – like banks.

“What we all want?” “Live free” – indeed
Within or over world we see?
Christ says, “Above – on Kingdom-layer”;
Die-broke says “in”, as “power player”.

Thanks Lord for this.
