“The Bet” (Psalm 107:23-32)

Sometimes a person’s smart enough to get
Into the deeps, based soul-ly on a bet;
But then one’s clever plans (ours, or some-one’s)
Come to an end like landslide – trash by tons.

Like kids-camp by the shores of northern lakes,
We learn to live with others, closeness breaks
Facades and all our niceties of lies;
Especially when the rain pours from the skies.

Fair-whether friendships have a breaking point –
They crash and burn, for pressure soon appoints
A time when all the factors must converge;
Then truth will out – Tsunami’s sudden surge.

Some think that’s bad, so try to hold, control,
Which looks all right, but looking at the whole
Cannot be done by man, or men with tools
Sophisticated – part is seen – the fools.

So, Lord, You have provided for this fact;
In end we learn to be in You, not act
On center-point as world goes whirling ’round,
Like children’s pin-wheel, driven, without sound.

So Lord, as we return to ice and snow,
Keep us and all our loved-ones, those we know,
Within the safety of Your center-point;
And by Your Spirit, all our ways anoint –

With life enriched by presence of Your love,
Until we’re all with You, like now, above
The world; but in a new dimension, so
We all can shift from bet, to what we know.

Thanks Lord for this.
