“Like A Bat Out Of Hell” (Matt.11:28-30)

A change took place in us that day
As stressors fled – what can I say?
Except like swimmer needing air –
Bat out of hell – got out of there.

Must say it came just soon enough –
Our job got done, though it was tough;
Not sure just why it melted then –
(Said never would do that again).

Not ’cause will power, power gained;
More like external world was tamed
By seeing it was now quite dead,
And from that horse we’d now been led.

Now it’s all fantasy, of course,
But half and half begets remorse
Before one even gets to there;
New insight, that – far better fare.

It’s strange how thus fresh energy
Comes into play – strange as can be;
I’d never dreamed of that as part
Of what transpires in human hearts –

There is no stress where evil plays;
“Go with the flow,” that lifestyle says;
No wonder folks assent to this –
Compared to mounting stress, it’s bliss!

It’s in between two worlds, I see
It’s difficult to blissful be;
So life in rock-room carved by wind,
Is stress-less, though by rock they’re pinned.

So Kingdom-layer is for the folks
Still trapped in stone, no heavy yokes –
They’ve no desire to dance New York,
For pushing through’s unwelcome sport.

Most to be pitied are the ones
Who think with stone walls they are done;
Perhaps graced to press on and on,
View “Kingdom-layer” as no fun.

But when at last they crash and burn,
Accept their fate, they’ll never learn;
They then become quite open folks,
To lighter loads and easy yokes.

No rear-guard action’s now required;
To Christ himself they’ve now retired;
Accepting selves as quite depraved,
They’re open then to being saved.

Lord, thanks for this quite major shift
From righteousness of self; You lift
Illusions – we’re indeed far gone –
Thus freed, in You, to move along.

Thanks Lord for this.
