“Yes, but...”

I watched and tuned my ear to hear his speech;
’Twas good – but once again he seemed to reach
Out to a group of middle-class elite,
And paid no heed – canary’s ceased its tweet.

When apple is compared to orange round,
It’s ’bout the sum of aspects which are found
To be in common – things like sweet or tart
Do not apply – we cannot get a start.

So, “Yes…but” is as far as I could go –
“The middle-class gives hope to poor – they know
That they can be like us’ (like ‘President
Is open to us all who have that bent’)”.

How I was raised, now “Yes, but…” is the rhyme
Which sounds to me – the rich make out just fine;
But working poor are falling to the gas
In mine-shaft – they die first; the rich die last.

Systemic are the changes we now see –
Like sugar when a diabetic – free,
Unbounded life no longer can be lived;
Once line is crossed, effect quite different is.

Lord, thank You for the work which we have done;
For Kingdom-layer insight – place to run
At full stretch – letting others make each choice
As they see fit, as we share heaven’s voice –

As salt to porridge; light to darkened room;
Or leaven so the bread-dough rises soon;
It’s not enough to say, “It’s trickled down”
Or “Hope ahead”, or “Army troops are sound”.

Please open up our hearts, and minds, and voice,
To know and do Your will; in such, rejoice;
That in the end there’s justice here for all,
And mercy, walking humbly at Your call.

Thanks Lord for this.
