"No Further Business"

Two times they meet per year, and each
Time close with comment – “I beseech
You brethren if there’s none tonight,
You all go home, we’ve done things right –

“Reported, we did nothing last
Year, nor will we, as die is cast,
Do anything at all again;
For next will be, alas, the same.

“No further business” we adjourn;
From all of this we’ve nothing learned,
’Cept ‘Giving’s down’ (I heard him tell
Another – ‘Things do not go well’”.

So mentoring, just spreads disease;
“Young man, I’d say it’s best you leave
The womenfolk to women’s work;
And kids as well – world’s gone berserk!”

The coffee’s good, and dainties too;
Two women said they felt so blue
Mid-February – each time ’round
They swooped and cycled near the ground.

Cost cutting, (saying, ‘no’) goes well;
It still outstrips the income – tells
A larger story, “Vision gone –
The people perish – same old song.

“Just leave them be, My son, for there
Is nothing in his trough – compare
That to the world which captured thee
With church’s possibility.

“You offer them some leadership;
They did not bite – because of it,
You now are as pariah viewed –
Far from your word of ‘Church renewed’”

Lord, it’s a mess – though work goes well –
Name changes, search-replace could tell
Me quickly, ‘Best we leave things be
In past with its simplicity’.

I thank You for Your guidance there –
Name changing with Your clever fare –
‘Now get it done, get on with life
While it goes on here with your wife’.

“Stu, just press on, it’s all okay;
And on the Kingdom-layer stay;
A wicket-gate; then life-long road;
As change takes place – release of load.”

Thanks Lord, for Your assuring word;
Which I this morn have clearly heard;
A mess it is out there, I’d say,
In You there’s such a better way.

Thanks Lord for this.
