"First The Shoot” (Mark 4:26-29; Luke 2:52; John 12:24)
It came upon me suddenly – you see,
I realized that growth starts from the seed,
’Till shoot breaks through the surface of the soil,
And that’s the place where end-less workers toil.But when at last the shoot breaks into light
The world can see what’s newly come from night,
And wonders briefly at this miracle,
Then moves along for seed must first unfurl –It’s golden head when sun and rain have come;
Its life above the soil has just begun,
For no-one, or no project starts full-grown –
A Scripture-fact I see I should have known.But You, O Lord, are quite aware of life;
For thirty years you grew this mission – light
Began – then four – twelve – seven-two spread out,
To cross our cultures’ borders all about.I’m so impatient for the crop to grow;
Time is so tight – I watch the curve – it goes
Straight up like hockey stick which is in play;
It’s geometric growth – I see Your way.That’s not an option – that is how life moves;
Long patience pays its dividend, behooves
Us work within its present regimen,
Lest crop be lost, and we begin again.Lord, keep me patient on this Kingdom-layer;
Allow for growth in younger Kingdom-players;
To tend and water growing plants I see,
That death now past, abundant life can be.Thanks Lord for this.
