"No Other Gods" [Ten Commandments as Panels of Hockey-Rink Boards Series - #1A] (Ex. 20:1-3)

When driving down the highway in our land,
I like to be the first – like race, to stand
Upon the winner’s podium – receive
The trophy saying, “First among all these”.

I think, in that, I am a lot like God –
Made in His image, formed of clay and sod;
He seems to have a drive for “First”, like me,
And asks I keep it that way, on my knees.

Clear road ahead – no other horse around,
Seven lengths ahead was Northern Dancer found
At finish line – far out ahead of pack;
“That’s Me to you, there Stu, it’s just like that.

“In realm of gods and goddesses about,
I’m in a class of one – there is no doubt;
It’s Me who brought you from constriction’s land,
With mighty arm and My out stretching hand.

“So don’t go thinking I am not the best,
By you or someone else, that you’ve been blessed;
Sure, I use situations, people, things,
To bring you to a life where your heart sings.”

Lord, You’ve invited me to Kingdom-layer,
A place to live this life as life of prayer;
In You, Lord Jesus, as my Lord and King
Part of the body-life to earth You bring.

Just yesterday, when I’d despaired of cash
To make that payment – bingo, more than asked
Was in that check, a piece reminding me,
It’s You who feeds, equips my life to be –

Of service here below while up above,
In middle-way, as conduit of love,
You wish to pour into our neighbors’ lives,
At rest in You, through whom all life survives.

Thanks Lord for this.
