"The Rollie"  [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #20]

Is the Rolleiflex, with a format square,
I struggled with – preferring there
To be rotating back to shoot
Rectangular for pix-pursuit.

Designs of book, when almost square,
Or fully square can then declare,
“Artistic”, “Modern”, “Avant-garde” –
(Good layouts there are sometimes hard).

A horizontal grid within
Square boundaries can prove to win
Attention, accolades, and praise –
For “Flawless”, “Solid”, “Compact” pays.

It’s versatile, pure form, he says;
Intent’s distinctive multi-ways;
To shoot from square right from the start
Gives art-director format-art.

Thanks Lord for this.
