"Power Sybols" [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - # 7]
Each culture has its touchy points
Which advertising then anoints
With status as symbolic power,
To harvest for the buying hour.Death, sex, and power, money, fame,
Are touchy in the white-world’s game;
Quite different in the world of Cree
(Too small a market, so they’re free).Skulls in the ice-cubes of the booze,
“Subliminal” – adds cannot lose,
For we select based on such drives;
“That’s nonsense” claimed, so it survives.The “Vanities” (from Solomon –
Ecclesiastes) – when life’s done,
And we look back, it’s vanity;
As vain as empty wind can be.So beauty in the mirror looks
At skulls on shoulders – “We mistook
Our treasures for reality;
But all is dust – it’s vain-ity”.Lord, You hold out a Kingdom-layer,
Where we can live our deepest prayer
For others – inter-cessor’s life –
Midst symbols of world’s empty strife.Thanks Lord for this.
