“There But For…”

“There but for grace of God go I”
The saying goes – a mirrored sigh
He was, for he walked on – my route
Has shifted south in northern boots.

We chatted, names of friends exchanged,
Touched bases, strength and weakness came
To surface fast for each – no need
To talk again – the same, in-deed.

Each tried to cope somehow, some way –
A builder he, so spent his days
In northern work – they’d ask me too,
But I chose other work to do –

But also built – or sought, at least,
Best way to build on bended knee,
With context gone – chose different route;
Each ending cooked in different soup.

Thanks Lord for this.
