“Initial Choices” (Joshua 24:14-28; judges 4:4; 9:19; I Samuel 3:1-4:1; II Samuel 12:25; I Kings 3:9-15; 11:36-39; 19:9-18, 19-21)

Time, and the issues surrounding time,
On Scripture’s pages, with highlights mine,
Relate to choices we make in life,
And what to do with a choice not right.

Important to make that choice “Today”,
Not dither ’round at sweets display;
Once up on the Kingdom-layer two
Types of employment are there for you –

First is routine in each season ours –
Long-term the tasks which demand our powers;
But then there’s quickies – take shorter time,
Which gives God the room for works sublime.

Some people make fracas, or hassle us;
We choose fight or flight (avoiding fuss);
God gives us role and tasks to fill,
Like mouthpiece for words He’s speaking still.

When something is over, then let it go;
When not quite completed, and that’s not so;
Sometimes (if perceiver), they shoot too fast,
While giver-types make the parting last.

When He asks (give options), choose inner work
Of high quality – don’t even flirt
With old age or externalities –
God will resource and meet your needs.

Our lives are fluid, there’s give-and-take;
Goof-ups by others agendas make
For us, as we take up their slack –
Next day’s their turn – go roaring back.

Choices make options redundant fast;
Dump them, they’re part of your present-past;
Do not be hobbled by useless trash –
Give it away, though don’t be rash –

Trash into treasures – which others use –
Left-over parts so they don’t lose
Options for future, as they press on
Into the future, their past now gone.

We get corrections when choice is wrong –
Heard in small voices, or quiet song;
He guides, directs us on our way –
Keep open mind to Him each day.

Call and release – Elisha’s plow –
Mantle enwrapped, removed is how
God gives an option, “Should you so choose
To take this mission, your life you’ll lose”.

Those are the boulders to put in first;
Choice saves us time – bad choice is worst;
Little time-savers are dwarfed by this,
God helps – by giving His Kingdom kiss.

Thanks Lord for this.
