“Behind Their Lines” (Isaiah 50:2-3)

I read those lines – thought it was Psalms,
My eye had skipped – I’d moved along –
So freshly came those words, O Lord,
Into my heart – first time I’d heard.

“Am I not strong enough to save?”
I heard again the words you gave
When Redvers blew to smithereens,
Providing space where bonds had been.

But now I heard not “me” or “him”
But “us” – You bid us to begin
To move some steps down mountain track,
To bring perceiver-sheep thus back.

But as we moved out past the ropes
To crags and cliffs – in dark we groped
To find our way, tease out some trail;
Without Your help, we knew we’d fail.

But here, again, within Your word,
Assurance midst our task is heard –
“I’m able to pull from the cliffs
The ones you find – for I can lift –

You all to safety once again;
So he’s got them, you him, the same –
And I’ve got you – well, actually,
My Kingdom-layer, or kite’s got thee.

Thanks Lord for this.
