"The Dumptruck String"(1 Cor.15:24-28; Matt.10:39;16:25; Luke 14:25-35)

On driver’s side there is a string which dangles there,
For pulling on when it’s a way of showing care –
Roll window down; pull on the string; up goes the box;
And out they go from back of truck – the process rocks.

For Jesus said, “Be sure to love the other guy,
As you love you”, and now I see the reason why –
Like masks for air when pressure drops high in the sky,
“Put yours on first, then help the rest, or all will die”.

If you are dead there is no way to be of use,
So careful be to stay in Christ; there’s no excuse
For dropping down below the line and wiping out –
The object is for all to rise, there’s little doubt.

That’s not the same as “Love your life to save the same”;
It’s just a part within the scope of larger game;
For in the end you lose it all – cash, friends, and life –
Inverted in the Kingdom-layer – and that’s all right –

For no one knows when this will end, it’s more like SWAT –
They don’t announce arrival time, as we are taught,
But in the end the Kingdom wins, it zeros out;
And Kingdom goes back to our God – what it’s about.

“Abide in me and I in you”, You said to all
Your people – hence to us as well – to fix the fall;
God’s plan extends beyond our lives, so “dump-truck string”
Has role to play within God’s plan – relief it brings.

But when folks get more teachable, return for more,
I pick them up, move on from there – they know the score;
I’m not too good convincing them a problem’s theirs;
I’m better when they crash to earth with blue-jeaned tears.

So Lord help me to keep my life secure in You;
And You in me, in all I think, and say, and do;
Thanks for a way to do Your work within my gifts;
For when You ask, I pull the string, let Spirit lifts.

Thanks Lord for this.
