"Your House?" [Module #325] (Matt. 23:37-39)

“Jerusalem”, You said with rising heat
Of summer sun, which, hotter as the day
Progressed, and Holy Week, of course,
Combined as Kingdom soon for You held sway.

And so today, as we reject Your words
Of invitation onto Kingdom-layer;
In story form we too join in our voice –
“We do not wish to have him King of players”.

Of course, we’re nicer with our niceties –
We keep good words in liturgies; we claim
You Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ;
But firmly cling to Adam’s basic game.

All this plays out in choices made each day,
As we encounter those sent to us, Lord;
We shut them out, close down their good advice;
Reject Your prophets, teachers of Your word.

Theology is used as picket fence –
We chant our creeds as border-flagging words
To frighten those who would not here fit in –
Brought out in times of crisis – when they’re heard.

Lord, now from vantage of Your Kingdom-layer,
I see these antics; no more bothered here;
I thank You for Your elevated place,
Where we find words of grace to us made clear.

Thanks Lord for this.
