“The-Big-In-Little Shift” (John 11:55-57; Psalm 121) [Module #275]
Some people think it best if one
Is big and flashy – they’re the ones
Who write official histories
Of wars and heroes – leaving me –And most of all humanity
As write-offs, dregs, as all they see –
Just chaff around their kernelled gold
To be shucked off once they take hold.So in the annals of our day,
The Redvers caper has no play;
Or incidents with clergy-types
Where wrongs enrobed suppressed the right.So too with Jesus – “Who was He?
Did He exist? Here let me see –
No there’s few mentions in the tome –
Our history’s official home.“Forget about Him, He’s just scum –
Rebelled, got killed, like everyone
Who took on Romans – can’t you see,
The winner of that race was me!”Well, no, like seed upon good ground,
His influence was quite profound;
We all know how establishment
Suppresses truth, then rests content –To be the heroes of the day;
But Jesus taught me how to pray,
And live this life on Kingdom-layer –
A life enriched by Scriptures, prayer.To us the Christ is daily bread,
From heaven sent, as Scripture said;
And He the twelve Apostles sent
To us – in that we are content –To be recipients of love,
From Father-God who’s up above,
Inviting all to shift their view
To Kingdom-layer – you can go too.For ways of righteousness indeed
Can mix into the world with ease,
And blessings of the covenant
Are ours as well as Father meant.So, “Proselytes who at the gate”,
Eat “crumbs that fall from children’s plate”
Are pleased to gain God’s rich reward
Of sins forgiven – heretofore –We can move on with joy fulfilled,
Despite the fact we might be killed –
Death has no victory in me,
No sting – I’ve died and risen, see?So, hey! Its Father’s strategy
To spread the faith in Him, and see
His children saved from misery –
As in His love henceforth I’ll be.Lord, thank you for your saving grace,
And thanks their missions all took place,
So I could hear (and now pass on),
Your invitation’s words and songs.For “Now I lay me down to sleep”,
Content, assured, my soul You’ll keep;
That if and when I rise once more,
You’ll be with me through open doors.For sometimes we don’t know what will
Transpire for us across such sills,
But rest content that You will be
With us, ’till dusk brings homeward feet.Thanks Lord for this.
