“The Pause” [Module #254] (John 11:54)

There is a pause ’fore hell breaks loose,
And cooked is how one views his goose;
Like here with Jesus – hits the hills
Northeast of town where all was still.

Three months he met with His twelve men;
Did not go back to town again
Until the showdown time was right,
And circumstance for death was ripe.

So too with us as hell prevails –
Sweeps through our peaceful hills and dales
Like cyclone hitting land at last,
With devastating stormy blast –

We get to pause, stand back, reflect;
To others now it seems neglect,
But there’s a time for insight, pause,
Before engaging in His cause.

When does it end, this calm retreat?
When does one rise to chaos meet?
When knock on door at last is heard,
And Spirit’s guiding helpful word.

In active willingness we ask
His guidance, healing, mission-task;
Or what we’d like for Him to do,
And ask our part come into view.

At times He’s given what we need –
Our name’s on it, for us to read;
“Just ask for it, then plug it in;
New life in me you can begin”.

So here we see You pull back, Lord,
Wrap up your work with parting words;
You spoke with them three months alone –
Are those the words of John in home –

Of your good friend in festive town,
Whose upper room’s where you sat down
With twelve or so for parting meal,
And sermon preached – as John made real?

Who knows – but three months after work
Were spent retreating, while death lurked
The streets of old Jerusalem,
Where soon you’d come to work again.

Lord be in our retreating days;
Fulfill our lives – as Your word says –
“Abide in Me, and Me in you;
And you’ll succeed what I do”.

Thanks Lord for this.
