"Body Life"

One hundred years ago today,
A truce broke out on Christmas day;
The night before the guns broke off,
In candle-light came singing soft –

Of Silent Night in German tongue;
Soon joined by English who’d begun
To feel the pull of home and hearth,
And folks far from their rigged-up tarp.

Few days and they were back at war,
Their leaders still had reasons for
Such senseless waste of life and limb,
Though safe the world which they were in.

And us? Will we lay down our arms
In family feuds? Take on the harms
Done by the folks who choose to waste
The life around in reckless haste?

For peace comes not by wish fulfilled,
By magic fairies – truth distilled
Is peace erupts when we step out,
Take up each challenge, faced with doubt.

It’s not a case of black and white,
But shades of gray, nerve-racking fright;
Of risk we face through endless nights,
Of acts we do midst margins tight.

God, as we press on midst the foes
Without, within, as on we go,
We pray for grace that we might stand
For peace, here in this fruitful land.

Thanks Lord for this.
