"In Whose Interest?" [Fawcett #28] ( )

When World War I was wrapping up,
Although the boys had had enough,
They ferried to the Russian shores
To keep the peace – not quite a war.

That was, of course, before UN
Or League rose up, but then again,
It was not altruistic, for
The Yanks had interests from before.

So as the Cossacks, Bolsheviks,
Swayed to and fro, Yanks were betwixt
Between, got shot up – sitting ducks,
Until they’d finally had enough.

So don’t get into others’ fights;
Leave them alone, write off your rights
To what cannot be salvaged there;
Stand back, take in deep breaths of air.

Two years they sallied back and forth,
Then went back home and doubted worth
Of loss of life and limb out there,
Where cold and hunger brought despair.

A proverb speaks of this so well –
Take ears of dog, things will be hell;
Hold on (for what?) A stalemate that
When dog’s released it will attack.

Lord, thanks for this small wisdom piece;
Quite fine it is – ’till strivings cease
It’s often best to let things go,
Before the dog’s attack you know.

Thanks Lord for this.
