"Stu, I Want The Job Done"  [Module #179] (Luke 13:1-5)

The good news? God gets rid of jerks who make our lives of pain;
The bad news? It’s the jerks we are, in fact we’re all the same;
We think, “If only they were gone, and it was just-us left,
We would not have to hide in holes, or in the rock that’s cleft.

“Why, then we could run at full stretch; push resource to the edge;
Not have those pesky protesters surround us like a hedge,
Or have those irresponsible big-business types around –
The Greens, or PC’s, NDP, or Liberals in town.

“There’s endless “isms”, driving us insane, why can’t they see?
The ones who have perspective, know the best way that could be,
Are orthodox – (“my doxy” is how that’s defined today);
So hey, you guys outside the pale, pack up and go away!”

Of course, that’s silly – we all goof, and do the best we can;
So get prepared to do your part upon this piece of land;
Attend, repent, be disciplined, then having gone your way,
Disciple others in your turn that they might have their day.

“I want to job done, Stu,” You said, one day long years ago,
Then showed me step-by-step just how this larger task could go;
Not just by me but by the team, it’s body-life we’re in
So job to do takes team-work – that’s a new place to begin.

Lord, now I see Your lessons to me, showed me what I’d missed –
I got that part (photography) and how by that we’re kissed;
But I’d not seen the team-work that’s required for body life,
As we gain our perfection for a body-part we like.

To “Get the job done” meant that I had need of larger view –
How each fits into larger task, it’s all, it’s not just Stu;
First, there were motivating gifts (I’ve three of larger seven);
Then Spirit’s working through our lives, (a little touch of heaven).

But last of all, that missing piece – the Apostolic task –
To boundary-cross each culture’s walls was critical in past,
To missionaries, business types, and governments that’s clear,
But now we’re all a jumble – Apostolic task is near.

So, twenty-five years learning that has taken up some time
The job must still be done of course, this tiny part is mine;
It’s geometric growth which drives all aspects of this work;
That’s good! For arithmetic curve would leave me in the lurch.

For I can plant a seed or two once soul-soil is prepared;
I may not be here when the crop matures for which I’ve cared;
It does not matter, job gets done in Christ as we can see;
He lives in us and works through us that Kingdom-life might be.

Thanks Lord for this.
