"The Layered Look of Love" [1st John series] (1st John 4:13-21)

The love of God within our hearts
Has layered look, for He imparts
To us His nature – love profound;
A treasure lodged in clay of ground.

Incarnate? What’s the meaning here?
Why, love lived out, and made quite clear;
God’s love for you, my colleague, friend,
Is seen in me – through me it’s sent.

Or not – and that’s what folks don’t get –
“You? Love of God through you? Forget
It buddy, if that’s love, I’ll take
Folk’s hassle served on silver plate –

“At least then I don’t have to choke
On lying life, of which John wrote;
Don’t clutter up my life with smoke
And mirrors – time that you awoke –

“To what is really going on;
How world since Adam’s gone quite wrong;
And how God wants to love through you
“Abide within, as He for you.”

So, multi-layered is God’s love –
Direct he sends it from above;
Through us to others, they pass on
Love’s impact in this world gone wrong.

Thanks Lord for this.
