"My Stretch Of The Road" [Module #139] (Luke 11:5-13)

We write the date on checks and sheets
Of paper – often – in the heat
Of daily actions pressing in,
But fail to note, as we begin –

Were stating at the top, “For us
This is our piece of road; though fuss
Absorbs attention, standing back
I see my locus of attack”.

Two thousand years it’s been about,
Since Christ was born, and lived (some doubt
About exactly, but no mind),
And started preaching to be kind.

There’s been a lot of folks since Him
Who’ve taken up the torch – some wins,
Some losses, but each worked a stretch
Of road, then passed it to the next.

And me? My stretch? From ’47,
Some years along that path, ’till heaven
Swings wide its gates to take me in,
So phase that’s next I can begin.

So “date today” states where I live
In life, and on that framework give
A little piece to larger whole,
As Christ lives His redeeming goal.

Such legacy we have thus far
From those before, and what we are;
Seven decades into life in Christ –
A massive depth of heaven’s light.

The written word helps out a lot
From Scripture, comments we have got,
As well as piece we add thereto,
In work we do as gifts to you.

Thanks Lord for this.
