"Breaking Through The Eggshell" [Module #137] (Luke 11:9-13)

This “asking” thing a problem is to me,
And goes right back to time I used to be
So much into a theft of others’ stuff,
’Till God said, ‘No – I think that’s quite enough’”.

He added then, “If you will mine yourself
The gold you need, not pull it from the shelf,
Then you’ll do fine – stop stealing others thought –
If you would use it, do so once it’s bought.”

And so I dug back in to find some ore
I could refine, then use, or dig for more;
Some people mine, refine, some render craft –
I do all three, so output drops from that.

Oh! Now I see! Three-layer cake it’s still –
The thought researched is layer-one, until
It’s smelted down, made ready for some craft –
We work some vein ’till we retire at last.

That is the issue now – It’s mining “thought”;
A concept strange, but that is world I’ve walked;
The work gets done – and that is layer-two –
Life on the surface shifts to something new.

For culture is arrangement of our tribes,
Around the work each layer-two describes;
The shift in type of ore the miners dig
Occurs from time to time – first Jerry-rigged.

The world before had scholars in their towers
Of ivory – they sifted by the hour,
While others dug around in earth itself,
To transform resource into goods on shelf.

’Till now that enclave on the fringe of things
Was esoteric – scholarship, which brings
To mind an absent-minded wee old man,
Or woman-strange who research what they can.

That’s what I see in matter of our thought –
The research team at college had their lot
In life laid out – a social paradigm;
But now it’s changed, for “thought” is now our mine.

Thanks Lord, for this, mind-stretching though it is;
So much to ponder, shift; adjust our biz
Of concept-mining, rendering the ore
Of golden thought – that “cake” just as before.
