"Unteachable" [Module #87A] (John 7:12)

To “learn is basic to all life,
A social enterprise – it’s like
We’re born within a context here,
And learn from them what we hold dear.

And then the magic opens up –
We come to see that life is tough,
So look for answers to our fix,
And look around to find a mix –

Of information (several types),
And try it out ’till fit is right;
Then implement what works for us,
Get on with life with far less fuss.

But we must active-willing be,
If we’re beyond our group to see
Another view of life can bring
Insights that help our soul to sing.

For if we close our hearts up tight,
Insist our thinking is quite bright,
We stand to lose – so open up
To other streams, both weight and fluff.

Paul was Apostle to whites
On Europe’s shores,, helped get things right
With God and man within that stream,
And moved them on from where they’d been.

He did not work the Asian soil;
In Western lands he put no toil;
Though to these Western shores they came,
Our culture-streams were not the same.

So openness was just not there
To native cultures, few would dare
To listen to their spirit’s food,
Or sprinkle salt to make it good.

Salt, light, and leaven to their oats,
Not jam some yogurt down their throats;
Was not the gist of their approach –
With sword and fire they made them toast.

The Europeans (and the rest),
Are locked into what they think best –
Can’t see beyond what helped them live,
So have wrong gift from Christ to give –

To those of us who different are,
From Europe’s questions are quite far –
As far as east is from the west,
Their answers aren’t for us the best.

So listen up, don’t be so sure
Your journey’s ways are all that’s pure;
Be teachable, and learn the code,
Then sing your song in different mode.

Thanks Lord for this.
