Standards

The standard for training of layman these days,
Is that for the clergy, for role that s/he plays;
“Equip them for ministry five ways or more”
Was way that Paul put it – examples galore.

For days are soon coming when “church” will be banned,
And leaders and trainers will be those at hand;
Tradition from Europe is already passed,
And house for all nations of prayer’s here at last.

The squabbles and hassles, maintaining the lines
Between Babel-groupings, which “war dance” defines,
Are part of the gifts God has given to men,
That we might have time to our life-styles amend.

Now others are conscious of what I have found,
That crossing the boundaries then looking around
Is costly – so costly that only twelve men
Were core of Christ’s training – one dropped even then!

It’s not rocket science, or concept that’s new;
It’s cost of our training and work that we do –
It costs all our friendships, our lives, and our wealth,
That’s why it’s conducted with caution and stealth.

Thanks, Lord, for this window and also this door,
To slip in Your teaching to those You adore;
God speed to its growing as seed in the soil –
Alert me if tending now costs me some toil.

Thanks Lord for this.
