"Leadership" [Module # 80] (Matt. 5:13; Mark 9:49-50; Luke 14:34-35)
The fiery ones lift up the rod like Moses at the beach,
While gentle folks with other gifts are heartened – when they teach
The others in their tender care a light comes in their eye;
They speak of Moses’ rod raised up, and how they did not die.But Moses did not raise his rod of leadership that day,
Until directed to by God who led him on his way;
He was confused and spooked because Egyptians on his tail,
Would soon attack him on the beach, then likely they’d prevail.“Stand still and watch deliverance”, God said to him that night;
Next day, “Go down to waterfront and swallow all your fright;
Lift up your rod as signal to your people to move on,
Through barrier of reedy sea – and foe will soon be gone.He took a breath and swallowed hard, then headed for the beach;
Then raised his rod above his head so God could others teach;
The wind picked up – God did his part – there was a fearsome storm,
Which sea pushed back, left land quite dry, across the sea they swarmed.Not so for other team, they bogged down in returning sea;
Escape made good, the children stopped, and said, “Oh goodness me!
Now that was close – let’s blow this joint, old Moses ain’t half bad.”
(Three days they liked him, then no food and water made them mad).Note attitude when faced with death encroaching on your heels –
Maturity’s thermometer, for often it reveals
How far we’ve come in living, not just thinking about our life;
For when the road is easy we talk better than in strife.Our salt and fire of influence are copied by the rest;
It’s not just those in leadership with quality addressed
Who others copy – all of us are copied all the time;
Just take a look around – your life is copied just like mine.Glow in the dark; light up a room; be beacon on a hill;
Inspire the troops; lift up your rod; give leadership and thrill,
To others standing ’round you when to battle you are called;
Folks rise to leadership because they’d rather not get mauled –By some pursuing army who would like to make them slaves;
Return them to captivity despite new freedom’s days
Of liberty, and dawn of hope in East across the sea –
“Raise up your rod of leadership, and call out “follow me!”.navigation
