"Speaking Of Phase Two"   [Module #67] (Matt. 16:13-23; Mark 8:27-33; Luke 9:23-27)

When Jesus walked the road up North,
The issue rose of basic worth
Of what He said – how gained and lost,
And interactive prayer’s cost.

“You gain; you lose”, was basic piece;
“You save; you lose” – so find release
In letting go, don’t seek to save
Your life – you need not fear the grave”.

And so, today, phase one is this –
We walk and talk while all is bliss,
But crunch arrives with the threat of death,
And issues bearing on our breath.

For point of view held by the world
Comes dressed like us, with flags unfurled –
“Do life our way and you will win;
For black is white, and there’s no ‘sin’.

“That is, there’s no rebellious part;
No God from which man can depart;
Eat, drink, be merry, life is short;
Get what you can in business sport.”

As Jesus faced “phase two” ahead,
His mentees balked, and Peter said,
“Have pity on yourself – survive
Hang out with us, and stay alive”.

So oft we take on Peter’s role
In life ourselves – reject the toll
Demanded by the kingdom life,
“Ease back, avoid such needless strife”.

But still Christ’s words hold true today,
“Take easy road; skip phase two’s way,
And you will lose the best in life –
Walk out of darkness into light.

Thanks Lord for this.
