The Pebble (Romans 8:14-17)

We walk our walk along the road ahead,
And do our best to walk as we are led;
But change within is not the only change,
For outside people also rearrange –

The ways they do their lives – a dance it’s like –
The music plays, folks shift from left to right;
They focus on each other in the main,
And those close by whose dancing’s much the same.

Sometimes we get absorbed in what we do,
Forget to keep a watch on larger view,
Then find some change has impact on our plan,
And we must sashay on from where we stand.

Then suddenly, environment has changed –
Our way of doing life is rearranged;
It’s then we see the mighty hand of God
Assisting us through guidance which seemed odd.

And then we see – some turn of phrase gives clue,
Like, “Way of doing life”, or “Point of view”,
And “Focus” – then I see the larger scene,
Accepting once again where I have been.

“For what if problem was,” He’d asked before,
“I had not grasped with firmness” (just ignored),
Around me “all the beauty of this life”,
From factors three – quite blinded in the strife.

Indeed we are Your children, God above;
In Christ our view is shifted by Your love
To up above – perspective gained indeed;
And looking down – an altered view of need.

But in this change I hear a second part –
“New way of doing life” has found its start
Upon a road quite different from before –
“Fear not”, I hear you say, “there will be more”.

Lord, I recall my prayer ’fore letting go,
When I was shown my blindness, so I’d know
There were some problems mixed with several strengths;
That You would guide me through each change at length.

He said, “Take up a gemstone in your hand,
And think of some dimension in your land
That needs to be released, dropped in the sea,
If you’re to move ahead and freedom see.

I took it, but I could not let it go;
You said, “The time will come when you will know,
That letting go is how I choose to give
Resource for life – through different way to live.

For righteousness is not a dodging game,
But facing where you are, and not remain
At starting point, but growing up in grace,
My Kingdom-life begin to then embrace.

For no-one does it all – just do your part;
MYOB terrific place to start;
The challenge facing others on their roads
Requires you each attune to others’ loads.

But most of all, your burden bear alone;
Support yourself and wife within your home;
Take up My cross and enter life around;
Together suffer till my glory’s found.

For you’re joint heir with Christ, adopted son,
You’ve brothers, sisters – family that’s one;
Stu, into sea that treasured past let go,
That you, in Christ, a fuller life might know.

Go back – review the poem from that day
When I laid out this somewhat different way,
Then live it out, I’ll guide you as you go,
The richness of My blessings you’ll then know.
