Perceiver’s Perspective

Perceivers used to scare me ’cause I thought they saw the truth
I knew I could not do that, so I felt, “well, what’s the use?
If they can see and I cannot, how can I carry on?
There is no place for me in life, I might as well be gone.”

And then one day I understood – it’s not the truth they see,
But more a way of viewing life which had a use for me –
Its clarity they have in viewing all of life around,
And when I’m in their presence I get insight quite profound.

Of course they also see and gain a benefit thereby,
But when I ask a question, they look 'round and answer ‘why’
 Or ‘what’, which helps me understand and move on in my life;
They then forget our chat, as soldiers in some private fight.

They don’t see truth, as I had thought, but clearly’s what they see;
I was confused because all truth is clear as it can be;
But everything that’s clear in life, cannot be viewed as true;
I saw the part they shared with us – was clarity of view.

As I looked ’round at other gifts, it then occurred to me
That everyone can get at truth, and therefore clarity:
“Encouragers” see patterns and within those patterns, truth;
And “givers” sense a “cause-effect” by quite a different route.

“Compassion-people” sense the truth in felt reality;
While “servers” sense it in routine – involvement’s where they see;
The “teacher” types assemble facts, layout sequentially,
And in between the lines they grasp the truth with clarity.

“Administrators” need a structure, then they grasp with ease,
The truth applying to their case, confusion up and leaves;
Each grasps the truth, or part of it, for no one sees it all,
Together we’ve success in life – rise up from where we fall.

For me, “perceivers” are the folks who bring me clarity;
I cannot see (unless there’s two, distinctionsthen I see);
Perceiver chats lift off the cloud that limits what I see,
But not for long – a day or two – it’s back to braille for me.

So that’s the part I get from them – I get to see the world
That’s 'round me, neath the mountain fog which close around me swirls;
I ask a question – “What is that?”, or “Why is it this way?”
They clarify my world for me, like sun to foggy day.

Perceivers can get stuck in life, confusing clarity
With truth – they sometimes go astray, believing what they see;
That’s why they need the other gifts with other views of life,
For in the mix, correction comes, avoiding needless strife.

Paul said it well, “We cannot say as eye unto an ear,
‘Because you’re not eye my friend, I do not need you near’
Nor can an eye say to itself, ‘Because I cannot hear,
There is no use for me on earth, I’d best be out of here’,”

For each of us sees part of life and when we share our view,
We gain a fuller view of life informing all we do;
To grasp with firmness all there is of beauty in this life,
We need each other’s point of view, enhancing our delight.
