Peace

There's peace that passes understanding Paul made reference to,
A peace we come to know when we abide along with You;
O Lord, it is indeed a peace which sweeps us up in love
And adoration of Your presence when we live above.

O Lord, her life was varied, she was first across the line;
She crossed the frontiers of her culture, lived a life sublime,
With government-Professor-and a great guy in her life;
From farm to gala parties, raising kids – and then her strife.

O Lord, our seasons change as now they have for Beverly;
As summer drifts to autumn we recall her days of need;
Her illness brought such struggle for her family and her friends,
We pause, reflect upon her life, as journey with her ends.

O Lord, we thank You for her life, the life we shared these years;
We thank you for her gracious smile, and helpful, hopeful tears;
We thank you for the life she gave to us in three fine sons;
We thank you for example given of culture-crossing fun.

Lord, boundary-crossing is not easy – tough to be the first;
And quiet courage doesn't show – sometimes folks are their worst
When threat's perceived to ways of life, they act defiantly;
It's then that boundary-crossing costs far more than most folks see.

But Lord, we thank You for this woman, gone to be with You;
We thank You for her gift of life and lessons to us too;
Our world's forever blessed because her life and love remains;
Our lives are now a richer blend, and for the better changed.

Lord give Your gift of perfect peace to Beverly and kin,
Her friends and colleagues mourn her passing, wistfully begin
A part of life without her presence in their daily walk,
And yet she always will abide within our ways of thought.
