Zacchaeus And The Waiting Room

Sometimes it’s just best we live it,
Leave the chatter, do the deed;
When we talk it just compounds it,
Taking action takes the lead.

Take those folks who made that music –
Practiced up to sing and play;
Signaled “Hey, it’s time”, on Facebook;
Journeyed there that sunny day.

Started out with just one cello,
Base was played from other chair;
Little kids were first to gather
In that Plaza – open air.

Others gathered – players, singers;
Public pictured with their phones;
Message spoken by such actions,
“We can’t live this life alone”.

Film they made – Beethoven’s music –
Singers sang his Number Nine;
Little kids were seen “conducting”;
Quality of sound – sublime.

One kid climbed, just like Zacchaeus,
Up a lamp post – couldn’t see –
“Is that Christ there in the Plaza?
No – too many – couldn’t be.”

’Cept they have a term they call it,
“Sound together” – “Sym-phony”;
Quiet message to Zacchaeus,
“We are one – it’s not just me.”

Sometimes Zack can’t hear that message
In our words and rhetoric;
Best we live unspoken message,
“Life alone will make you sick –

“We need others in our groupings,
Lest we then get weak and die;
Paul said, ‘Hey – discern the body,
Parts as one, I’ll tell you why –

“ ‘Eyes can’t walk, nor hands perceive you,
Ears can’t feel, your feet can’t sing;
There are others in the body,
You’re the part that you can bring’.”

Zack said, “That is not the message,
Spoken, to our great applause;
We were told at convocation,
‘Max it out within the laws’.

“So I did – my neighbors hate me –
I am rich, I live the code;
But this music stirs a feeling,
Makes me conscious of my load...

“Yes – of course – do come to dinner –
Chat in my propinquity –
Hear your yoke is light and easy...”
Music – serendipity!

One sat waiting for the doctor,
Saw my picture on the wall:
“It’s community that heals us,
Picks us up each time we fall”.

When the doctor checked her pressure,
All was normal, health returned;
Zack in Plaza, one with picture,
No words spoken, lesson learned.
