The Team

This lady – was a Mennonite, I know,
Described to me a little bit of flow
Of music through each generation’s gap,
And how it morphs each time from this to that:

“At first there was just song, in harmony,
Our voices raised, bond of community;
This generation instruments took up,
And in between – piano-organ stuff.”

Today I saw up front of us displayed,
A mom on base, foundation there was laid;
A son’s piano melody was fine,
Helped us to sing, so worship time was fine.

But best of all was drummer and his dad –
The drum-kit played with skill the young man had;
By hand, percussion, bongo, deeper drums,
Filled in the gaps, accented vocal fun.

I wondered if the others in the room
Appreciated what would go so soon,
As kids spread out to other schools and towns;
What joy to have that family around!

So thank you for your leadership today;
Your vocals, and the instruments you play;
I wish I’d had my camera on hand,
To catch that scene here in this precious land.

Thanks
