The Banker's Mirror

I’ve been screwed by the left, I’ve been screwed by the right,
It feels pretty much the same;
The purpose and process equivalent –  seizing power to have one’s way.

At its base it’s just chasing some scarce resource,
Seizing power to have one’s way;
Just like “King Of The Mountain” when we were kids – “imitation of adults” play.

If you're gentle of heart and you hate to fight,
You can still play the power game;
Just tiptoe around without making it sound; share some gossip without your name.

For with no sticks and stones, you won’t break any bones,
And together you all can be;
Though the knife in the back is an evident fact, with some skill no one else will see.

Overt fighting is bad; by oneself you are sad;
Kum-ba-ya is where life is at;
Burn a candle or two, it’s the least you can do – With a smile they won’t smell a rat.

For compassionate folks, it’s a bit of a joke –
They’re so blind yet they think they can see;
When I look in the mirror, situation is clearer – details changed, they resemble me.
