Cost Of Jubilee

What is the cost of Jubilee,
Or should I ask, “the Price”?
Depends who’s paying for the charge
(explosive-type device).

For cost is how much we will pay,
And price how much we’ll charge;
The transfer of a given sum,
That one might roam at large.

What value do we place on it,
Each day of freedom gained?
What is the worth of one pinned down?
Release of someone pained?

When we’ve been trapped and then released,
So now in freedom walk,
We do not hesitate to shift
To actions all our talk.

How best to liberate our friends,
And family trapped in life?
Hold nothing back in our attempts
To ease each point of strife?

But as we work, each in our way,
“Accelerate” and “Brake”
Each have their time and place in life,
As we participate.

God works in them just as in us,
On that we can rely;
He does not free just through our work,
As we resources ply.

Most folks want “oats” not “help” it seems,
More gas to fuel machines;
Substantial work is not desired,
On us they’d rather lean.

Because I am third culture kid,
A language gap exists;
The message once received by them,
On freedom they insist.

Like starter-motors in our cars,
We need to dis-engage;
Once task is done, they’re under way,
Relationship must change.

As singers share their night-time songs
High up in rafters slung,
Discordant sounds of truth ring out
From liberated lungs.

Precarious that moment when
First breach of wall is made;
In stillness we adjust our stance,
Until next move is played.

That’s when the cost (or price) mounts up –
The peak of what is spent
Comes out of us as we ease back –
And see what actions meant.
