Dancing Eyes

The evening was quite natural as “ballet lesson” went,
We danced around the family room, first practice, then we sent
For audience to watch our moves – more graceful on her part,
With softness as she took my hand, and litheness in her heart.

She showed a twirl I had not done for fifty years or so;
And skipping (I quite sluggish, as she round the room would go);
But then that twirl, twice caught my eye with laughter in her eyes –
A Kodak moment – three more times – saw spirit in her rise.

So there you go – a payoff for the many Friday nights,
With children of our children coming over – what delight;
Someday perhaps, way down the road, I’ll join her wedding dance,
But if that is not possible, I’m glad we’ve had this chance.

Acceptance is a miracle with dividends so rich,
Which people can invest in us, effects are so delish;
When decades of the other way have been one’s history,
A flash of dancing eyes can make a mist of memory.
