A Long Slow Decline
There’s a darker side to Brandon, I’d not seen before today,
As I walked out in the bushes saw a movement – saw them sway;
Then I saw his peaked hat moving as he watched me through the bush,
Gave a gentle wave and moved on, he waved back as leave I took.Didn’t walk that fast on leaving, just a measured, cautious pace;
Didn’t look back to those bushes, he’d be gone in any case;
Crossed the tracks down to the golf course, crossed the lot then hung around;
Heard some footsteps on the gravel, jumped a foot at this new sound.Then I knew that things were changing – it’s not safe as once it was;
Time to mosey on I figure, though no rush I know, because
Mostly trouble’s not around us – pick your place, and pick your time,
Then it’s more or less quite normal – take a walk, you’ll make out fine.Think it’s more it pushed the trigger of some feelings I have had,
That this town is going downhill, though it’s really not that bad;
But there’s changes I have noticed, I can’t say they’re all that good;
When I saw him in the bushes, it was then I understood.navigation
