Four Questions: Number Four – What’s Stopping You?

What’s in the way? That’s question four.
What blocks off going through that door?
Not ‘those’, but ‘that’ – one at a time –
What’s keeping you from life sublime?

As teacher – bosses? Union? Peers?
A raft of deep internal fears?
No ticket saying, “He can teach”?
A challenge far beyond your reach?

As sailor – got a crummy boat?
A small canoe that cannot float?
Not smart enough to take the test?
No shelter for boat’s winter rest?

As father – kids don’t need you now?
If you excel you’ll spook somehow
Your peers and neighbors up the street,
If they should super-dad then meet?

As husband – wife prefers a slouch?
With can of beer there on the couch?
And as you’re just not into beer,
You say, “I’ll just as slouch to appear”?

As member of your church – ‘they’re sick’?
“If I Excel they’ll give a kick
And boot me out the door, like Stu;
So quiet I’ll remain – as ‘fool’”?

How ’bout your skills – that list you made;
Boles’ exercise – your rank and grade;
They polished up like swords of steel?
What’s blocking their effect as real?

How ’bout your wisdom – like that stuff
You listen to – you had enough?
What stops you from excelling there?
No parts of life need wise repair?

How ’bout your life – they say, “don’t live
With excellence, or try to give
Your best, please do not show us up
Or we will make your living rough?”

How ’bout your zest – it’s up and gone?
No energy to move along?
I don’t say you must Rabbit be,
More zestful tortoise ‘neath the sea.

So ya – what can the blockage be?
What stands between “excels” and thee?
As you look around your paradise,
What stops you making life real nice?
