Power

Some people say there’s too much power around –
When rivers roar through cataracts the sound
Is deafening to our ears, blocks out the voice;
Yet in its vibrant feel our hearts rejoice.

That storm across the lake, so dark the blue;
It’s clouds – so fast approaching – no one knew
If tents would hold, or if they’d water shed;
Midst thunder, father to us children read.

This time last year the flood was part of life;
The raging waters carved from banks a slice
Of riverbank – destroying homes and shops;
Then friends and neighbors helped folks out a lot.

Inventor of explosive, ‘dynamite’,
A fortune made for getting it just right;
Obituary made him realize,
He'd like to use his cash for Nobel Prize.

Each day new forms of power come to use;
In each we see new forms of its abuse –
Like nano-tools which multiply the force
Of tiny chips, which all will use, of course.

Already shift is being made to ‘cloud’,
For nano-tech will never be allowed,
Except in hands of “good and righteous men”,
(That’s not the way it happens in the end).

But there’s a power greater than on earth,
Which laughs at us and what we view as worth;
The values which we hold are upside down;
God keeps his power ’till attitudes come ’round.

We each select deployment of our power,
For good, or ill, or neutral use, each hour;
We’ve each more power now than ancient kings;
It’s use for us accounting for it brings.

But there's a use far greater than a bomb,
Or cyber-hacking – zapping those around;
For God invites us, “Join your power with mine,
Together work – your silly ways resign”.

So as we make new tools and power gain,
His invitation, “Join with me”, remains.
We do not handle power or money well –
Let’s copy God, and use it not for hell.
