They threw the switch and shut it down,
So all that’s left is what’s around;
The penny’s name will soon be past
Like ha’penny – no more it’s cast.So, yesterday they threw the switch;
The Penny stopped – a meaning which
Most folks can’t see – like those “Colones” –
Inflation creeps into our homes.For impact comes with the largest bill
One hundred bucks – for us it’s still
The paper where the impact lies;
With Penny gone, that bill will rise.Once penny was a daily wage,
Then rose to dollar to engage
A man to work; still up it went,
Till now they’ve stopped the lowly cent.Ten bucks an hour, that’s minimum;
That’s eighty bucks when day is done;
So twenty-K is yearly rate;
Six thousand times – watched it inflate.A hundred bucks to do that task,
Was 1.6 per day in past;
Three times it’s worth – they like that rate –
