After The Storm

When teams of horses take their lead, and storm across the land,
The force unleashed, a frenzied whirl which few can understand;
The secret is to help those folks get in the driver seat,
And make the best of life ahead until the time that sweet.

Outsiders who must intervene stand back and let them run;
They recognize raw energy – experience it as fun;
Content to ride beside the team, reach out and take control,
Outriders in chuck-wagon race, reduce the needless toll.

But when the race has run its course, wild horses settle down,
There is a drop in energy, effect is quite profound:
"Is this the end of everything?" "Will there be something more?"
"What of my life from here on in?" "What else has life in store?"

The time is tricky for us all, a new phase opens up;
No more the whirling runaway, or striving for the cup;
For now's the time when teams must meld into contented pull,
A task involving partnership, relationship that's full.

For now's the time when we head home; a time of the sweet release;
A time when we must share the load and solo-life must cease;
If we continue as before, once team has settled down,
Frustration mounts and we miss out the bliss of final round.

It's now that interveners’ job is melding of the team;
Recrimination heading off – help celebrate what's been;
For both the horses in the team experienced the whirl,
And now it's time to settle down, as both together pull.

A time to share perspective on the race across the turf;
A time when each can hear the words, and view it all with mirth;
Some folks can do this on their own, some need a guiding word
(Good news about this sweeter phase of life within the herd).

So now's the time I dare not act directly in this case,
But rather, through the teammate work, as both adjust their pace;
If help can come from in the team, it starts to pattern set
In which renewed relationship can grow, and needs be met.
