Four Questions: Number Three – Capable Of Excellence?

Now what of your capacity?
For that’s the gist of question three –
“Do you think you could make the grade,
By building on foundations laid?”

As teacher – does capacity
For excellence reside in thee?
When you see those who are esteemed,
Do they exceed what’s in you seen?

As sailor – are you Commodore?
With ample room to grow some more?
Bring cheers to family on the shore?
Then bring from crowd triumphant roar?

As father – is there excellence
On either side of picket fence?
Some aspect of your deeper life
To show your kids, with your dear wife?

As husband – have you got the stuff
To rank as top – exceed “enough”?
Are all the other super-guys
Far out of range as handsome, wise?

And as church member – in your pew
Could you excel and still be you?
Are other members who excel
That far ahead – as near can tell?

In skill, and wisdom, life, and zest,
Could you in any show the rest
That you excel – “Just watch me strut;
I ain’t no common wayside mutt.”
