Proverbs 18:14

Got thinking on my misty walk
About your journey, doubly fought –
How normal life returned for you,
Then summoned you to fight anew.

Fatigue, collapse, the loss of hope’s
The challenge when the battle’s scope
Runs many years, returns once more –
Can dammage deep our inner core.

My beater (older car) broke down;
Up on the hoist it could be found
Some days – like when required the most –
(Until last month – I called it ‘toast’).

The problem came one day last year –
Garage was closed, sign soon appeared:
“The hoist is broke, come back again,
As in your service we remain.”

To me, that sums up cancer’s fight,
When long’s the battle in the night:
By spirit, sickness we endure –
A broken hoist impedes the cure.

So friend, I pray for strength of soul,
As you press forward to your goal
With humor – laughter lifting thee –
That broken hoist you may not see.
