“People Junk?”

It’s said that, “God does not make junk”,
While other folks say, “That’s all bunk”;
But I say, junk? We drown in it –
And think we’re God – at least a bit.

So, “God” makes junk – that I can see;
Perhaps in budget there will be
Some more junk-making moves in store,
As Feds ‘economy restore’.

One guy in all sincerity
Said, “Raw is processed ‘there’ you see,
Not ‘here’ – go where the market is;
That’s basis of all modern biz.”

We also give our oil away
To Yanks, at cut-rate every day;
Though we can sell to Chinese too,
At better price – perhaps quite soon.

But Canada’s quite frigid turf,
With rocks, and trees ,and frozen earth;
A dumping ground for toxic waste;
Polluted land, few pristinely lakes.

Our population is quite small;
Our jobs are gone so at the mall
The price is low for goods and food;
“Makes business sense”, is understood.

Subsistence is what’s looming up,
As time ticks on and things get tough;
“One dollar is one-vote you see” –
They disenfranchise you and me.

One hope is on the Internet –
To live where cheap, and still connect
With markets where the money is,
And bring it here through cyber-biz.

But there’s a catch – the net is clogged –
Where are the buyers who have logged
Into the cyber-world to find
Their products? Might as well be blind.

But as we use our fancy sieve
To find such folks – a list to give –
Perhaps we all can then respond
To needs from here – once more belong.

For junk is just what’s good no more;
Not viewed as junk when good’s restored;
With cyber-tools let’s animate
Our western turf – “Junk” liberate.
