Paradigm Pioneering

It is pattern recognition that’s a strong card in my hand,
But it has its weaker aspects so alone it should not stand;
For the giver-driven cause-effect can soon come into play,
If I give it room to exercise its own distinctive way.

For the only way one gets to move on forward down the field,
Is to probe ahead for obstacles and see if they will yield;
As my forward-reaching Canadarm has sensors on its tip,
I can first tease out gross movements then refine the route a bit.

I don’t think about it consciously, just when a question’s asked,
Which is never future, present, but is always in the past;
So I disengage attachments from results which then emerge,
So I won’t be kept from changing things when answers then diverge.

Though it’s nice to form conclusions, put belief into our finds,
It is cooler to be patient, let emerge our wiser minds;
It’s a way to keep the costs down, minimize the damage done
When we ascertain through probing hidden rocks where we might run.

He said, “Don’t jump to conclusions, put that off until the end;
Though they bid you be decisive, through your acts this message send,
‘When the facts are all before us, and we’ve had a chance to probe,
We will render our decision; leave the bench; take off the robe’.”

To that process I would add that I can tentatively build,
Laying rows of bricks and mortar till the blueprint I’ve fulfilled;
But I must allow for error, second thoughts, and better ways;
Then I hope it all will settle into stable happy days.

There’s of course, a strong temptation to conclude before it’s time;
People show their consternation as they stand within a line,
For they wait to tell their stories, ask a question, state some facts;
If discussion time is ended, they resort to vandal’s acts.

So it takes a lot of patience pioneering paradigms,
For we must not spook the subjects ’case they leave before their time;
But if we will press on gently, probe the darkness patiently,
We will find a way that’s open, form a structure they can see.
