Our New Address
It’s not that change starts happening, it’s more direction’s flow;
Before I changed a lot through life as upward I would grow;
I thought that was the way life went – just upward and away,
Until I realized one day the part about decay.At first I wrote it off as flaw – like cavities, and sight,
And then one day at basketball some juniors set it right –
“I’m not eighteen, these people are, I can’t compete with them;
I think I’ll sit this scrub-game out – encouragement I’ll lend.They say that diving in a pool, it’s best to enter slow;
Splash water on your legs and arms, check ponds you do not know;
I used to jump right in because I hated slower pain,
But as I’m getting older now, I’ll think on that again.For I can change, but not as fast – adapt straightforward ways;
The tools and skills I bring are not as strong as former days;
But there’s advantage I still bring to court or swimming pool –
I’ve wisdom from past battles fought; awareness of the rules.But more and more as life I watch, reflect on what I see,
I use my pen and camera, dictate some notes for me;
Then I digest what I have learned, and speak with other folks,
Then write my books, and poetry, make pictures, songs, and jokes.Each phase of life has challenges – like a mom in nursing home;
Or children going out to play, allowed to further roam;
Young people starting out in life, with jobs and new careers;
And middle-aged as they engage hormone-reduction tears.Tomorrow it is April fools, when we can play some pranks;
It’s also Sabbath when we pause to say a word of thanks;
For me it makes just fifteen years since driven from the pool;
But most of all it starts my new adventure – which is cool.My son? He started up last week to get things setup up right;
Last day for me to goof around, then get some sleep tonight;
For once we throw the switch on this, it’s full steam all the way –
I’m glad tomorrow is April fools and Sabbath – start with play!For that’s another change for me – a while since in the pool;
A while since in the business world; a while since back in school;
A while since all my ministry had form within four walls;
A while since I dressed up for work, and hustled down the halls;I love the tools there are today, like digital and net;
I love the software I checked out, and love its former set;
I love that roads are faster now, the planes can move us ’round;
And when we need to meet with folks we’ve Skype for sight and sound.The social networks have their flaws, but open up some doors
To people I’ve not met before, no doubt there will be more;
Now e-books ebb and flow through space, with POD for print,
So we can all communicate, and hear what people think.In business we’ve computers now to tally up the cash,
And check our first projections out, or hit ‘delete’ to trash;
I’m looking forward to this way of riding on through space,
With ‘Global Village’ our address – one world with human race.navigation
