Decisions

In prototyping paradigms, decisions must be made,
By lagging in behind each one, foundations best are laid;
For need arises, real need, which we must then address;
We do the task, then structure build, omitting all the rest.

For what we want, quite simple is – a way to set things up,
Which builds around reality, a shape and form that’s rough;
Much later we will fancy get, once function has emerged,
When prototyping paradigms all nicety’s submerged.

The first foundation which we saw was body-life I’d say –
Take serious the gifts we have, divide things up that way;
All gifts are ours, we have them all, excel in one or two,
With our two gifts, that brings to four – the other three are new.

Like ‘server’ to do crafty things and make machines run right;
‘Administrator’ (third in me) brings structures into sight;
And ‘teacher’ (third in him) to show the others what to learn;
And then we’ll have what is desired, for which each person yearns.

‘Compassion’ – it is number one – that’s one strong gift in four;
A need for nest-stability, companionship and more –
A drive to rush some enemy, some noble cause espouse,
A need to bring the bacon home to where the family’s housed.

The second top – ‘encourager’ – sees ways, and means, and how;
Its focus is immediate, it’s life is lived in “now”
By taking incremental steps, impossible surmounts
Or slips between two obstacles, with margins one can count.

That frees our seconds, gifts which pay, it always happens thus:
Though A’s and B’s or C’s in school – employment is a must;
The B’s get hired (not thoroughbreds) and make out pretty well;
The A’s then go and work for C’s – a recipe for hell.

That trend aside, we forge ahead, perceiver’s gift’s the one,
Our structure is to house, you see – and how we’ll know we’re done;
For it’s the center of the mix – the hen with golden eggs –
(Of course it’s in a human with two arms, two legs, and head).

‘Perceivers’ need to cogitate, need time to think things through,
So jobs that don’t take intellect are what they like to do;
Routine, straightforward, giving brain a focus, thus a break,
Enable it to do its best, some duh-time to create.

They need to be the head of things; high risk, and high reward;
They lead the charge right up the hill with nothing but a sword;
That’s not a job for all, I’d say, (I like the flank attack),
Our countries keep reserves of them, in war they call them back.

When people have perceiver gift as single gift that’s high,
They’re often seen as “geeks” and “nerds” in whom a brilliance lies;
But they must have six other gifts to function at their peak,
(If modified with other gifts, an easy need to meet).

My second is the ‘giver’ gift, suppressed in me at first;
But twenty years allowed to run has modified the worst
Effects that came, for I was told, “Don’t be that way round here”;
Now it is strong, and I have learned to live without that fear.

The givers think resource, and cash, and ROI, and gifts;
They work behind the scenes to help give other folks a lift;
Like other gifts, they need some help to live the upside-way,
But mixed with other gifts they bring approaches that will pay.

So interface of those four gifts which function near the top,
Bring challenge and reward two both, that’s where most hit the rocks;
Perceivers do not trust the gift of giver – see their scams;
And givers don’t perceivers trust – they sense their long-term plans.

Compassion-gifts control the gifts of givers – thankfully;
They bop them on the head at times, say, “Stop it – can’t you see
You can’t do that around this place and have community;
So knock it off, come into line, together walk with me”.

But givers need perceiver types – take politics and look
Behind perceivers, with their cash are givers and their books;
It’s symbiotic – needs exchanged – resources brought to bear –
An allergy persists until God’s Spirit clears the air.

Encouragers, perceivers need to cheer them when they’re down;
As How-to guys, they see the ways to turn a ship around;
Reversed, that’s also true because encouragers are blind
To what, and why, perceivers see, so they a path can find.

If these four gifts can’t operate, they quickly find they're beached
Like whales, who come too close to shore, no destination reached;
But when they do, they far exceed what each alone can do,
This paradigm we’ll prototype – then show results to you.
