“So I Think You Can Dance”
I’d never thought before of “loose” and “tight”
As ways to view sub-cultures, but it might
Be helpful as I work to help folks grow
Together, in the heritage they know.The concept, “tight” means “color in the lines”;
Their pictures are by other folks defined;
“Do life our way, we’ll listen for the tone,
Then send our dictates down to guide you home.”But other cultures have a way that’s “loose”,
More like the ways of flight by duck and goose;
They fly together, help each other out,
But choice within the group’s what they’re about.I thought the UCC was “loose” for there
A lot of women rose to upper air;
But no – they’re “tight” – from top of the rule came down,
To raise the women up from near the ground.“What difference does it make?” I hear you ask.
The difference comes when raising-time is past;
For “tight” does not permit folks to be free –
“Conform your life, and take your cues from me.”So UCC has women through its ranks;
They last just seven years, with little thanks;
Drugged up on Prozac, stressed beyond belief,
Then they must flee from “tight” to find relief.navigation
