St. John

I used to counsel (chat with folks) about their lives derailed,
But frequently would fail to ask if on some drug impaled;
Or they would spin some crazy yarn about how good things were,
Embarrassed by their messed-up life out there amidst the swirl.

One thing I came to real-ize was ground-truth has its place;
I helped such folks to rearrange their lives in any case;
Friend Judy (worked for CBC) said, "Gullible you are";
Agreed – but I don't need the truth to move me on quite far.

If I'm to make 'The News' for folks, I need to check things out;
But as I rearrange, not tell, I know what I'm about:
If folks want help to sort the trash, then sorted trash they get;
A waste of time, it doesn't work in life, but what the heck –

I'm not afraid of cliffs, and blocks to moving free and clear;
When folks encounter obstacles they think the end is near –
It's not – perception is one part of life, but not the whole,
Our minds are tricked continually in journey to our goal.

I like to see the obstacles before I start my craft,
Not where those rocks were yesterday – irrelevant the past;
For boats get holes if rocks we hit – but not if rocks are seen,
That's why I ground-truth when it counts – especially when keen.

To me the paper says quite clear, "Those guys quite frightened were";
"Four years no play" asks, “Batna’s who's?" Not theirs – quite clearly yours.
So what to do when blocked like that is seen in Jean val Jean –
He picked the poker from the hearth and beat them to their fun.

For power plays assumptions have, like, "Low resource", and "Greed"
They think the other guy's like them when they are found in need;
I used to live my life like that till I saw clearer view –
That universe much bigger is, which frees me up to do –

What Scripture says – ‘let go and laugh’; ‘build up the other guy’;
‘The birds still sing, the sun still shines, there's blue up in the sky’;
‘Cold hearts of steel get soft, then melt, as every blacksmith knows,
When love is piled like embers up, and on that pile one blows’.

I say to folks who come to me, "Hey! You can fool my mind;
It doesn't take a scientist some flaws in me to find;
But in behind, beneath, above, around me is a One
Who is the One you're up against – the universe He runs."

The way is in the documents – there always is a way;
So just sit back and look again, put up your feet and say,
"What other things did I not see?" Like in the game of chess:
Until you see those moves ahead, restraint is always best.

Attacks are often surfaced deep, when others sense a route;
So watch for where their weakness is, and listen to them tout
Stupidity, and blinkered thought – for Shakespeare they don't read;
Stand back and take the larger view – perspective gives the seed.
