Helping With Step One

"Oh my God! In this I see
I've a problem – goodness me!
Overwhelmed I am, I say,
‘Help me, Pastor – please – do pray’".

"Help me, Lord, I'm sinking fast,
Out beyond my depth I've passed."
"Take my hand – it's okay, son,
Life for you has just begun."

"Lord, like Peter on the waves,
Sinking, called to you, "Please save!"
Now I'm wet, back in the boat,
Dealing now with those who gloat."

"Gone my ways of quiet life,
Problems now with friends, and wife,
Children too – Lord what a mess –
Job is gone – now we have less."

"Lord my life is in a swirl,
Like when I was just a girl –
"Wish these teenage years where past,
Adulthood would come at last."

Such are times when we awake,
Facing life, we tremble, shake –
More than we can face alone;
Overwhelmed, and far from home:

"Years I've lived, my eyes were blind
To all this – I paid no mind;
Now I see, but cannot cope;
Overwhelmed, I feel no hope."

"I can't take new info in;
Cannot see where to begin;
Help me – settle down my heart,
Once I'm there, perhaps I'll start"

Then it ends – peace comes at last;
Info-search arises fast;
Trying on that awful suit –
Endless talking in the group:

"Step-one issues challenge me,
Swirl, confusing all I see;
Preach the Word, help rearrange,
Mixed up thoughts that I might change."
