Honesty's Serenity

How could I take two open honest moments,
And turn them to a normal way of life?
It used to be that way, but times are different –
Perhaps because of layered times of strife.

I'd like to be just me – to live that freedom,
Without protecting who I really am;
To be accepted as a normal person,
Just doing life like others – best I can.

I guess the choice is mine, how I do living;
I cannot change the way folks look at me;
To change with courage things which call for changing;
Accept the rest with graced serenity.

Lord, there are folks who follow my example,
With no idea how to live that way;
Help me to live my life like those two moments –
Expand them into four this coming day.

I know what is required is "Stop pretending" –
Stop making out that everything is fine;
And walk the honest walk with no more bending –
Let others live their lives as I live mine.

To be as wise as serpents in the desert,
As innocent as lambs amidst the hay,
Is hard because reversed describes our lifestyle –
Our wisdom that of lambs, but snakes at play.

So help me take my model from those moments –
They’re fact, not out ahead, a thing that's done –
Recall the precious feeling of their freedom,
And bring it into play ’fore setting sun.
